The
‘language of equal importance’ covers many complex layers, at
its heart are differences dualisms and oppositions that struggle to find symmetry
and balance in an unequal world.
The traditional portrait is used as a metaphor for appearance and a reflection
of self image.
This work is as much about what is hidden as what is seen. It challenges the hierarchal language that has historically been assigned to appearance.
The
theoretical research was predominantly focused on the theory of sexual difference
in Psychoanalysis.

This body of work was made during Maxines MA at Westminster University and exhibited at Watermans Arts Centre 2004.
